Accessibility statement

Toronto Eats is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technology.

The standard we work to

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, which is the standard referenced by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation.

What we have done

  • Every image carries descriptive alternative text, or is marked decorative where it carries no information.
  • Colour contrast is measured rather than estimated, including a 3:1 minimum on interface boundaries such as input borders and button outlines.
  • Colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
  • The whole site is operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator at every step.
  • Form fields have permanently visible labels, and errors are announced to assistive technology and described in text.
  • Headings follow a logical order and pages use standard landmarks.
  • Text can be resized and the layout reflows without loss of content.

Known gaps

We would rather name these than claim conformance we have not reached:

  • The brand film's captions are provided, and one line is still being checked. The film contains narration, so captions are required under WCAG 1.2.2 (Level A). A caption track is available and can be switched on from the player's own controls. Its timing is derived from the finished edit rather than from the script, so it does not drift. The wording of one line near the end has not yet been confirmed against the audio, which is why captions are not switched on by default — we would rather you opt in to something we have not finished checking.
  • Some pages are still being written and may be sparse. That is a content gap rather than an accessibility one, but it affects how useful the site is.
